Radical Women & Freedom Socialist Party Endorse & Urge All-Out Support

Radical Women & Freedom Socialist Party Endorse & Urge All-Out Support for the Oakland General Strike on Wednesday, November 2

Radical Women and the Freedom Socialist Party endorse Occupy Oakland's call for a general strike on Wednesday, November 2 and we urge everyone to participate in this important day of action. The Alameda Labor Council, SEIU Local 1021 and the teachers of the Oakland Educational Association have endorsed the strike and are calling on unions to do the same.

Occupy Oakland intends to march on banks and corporations that do not close for the day. Their demands are:

-- Solidarity with the worldwide Occupy Movement
-- End police attacks on our communities
--Defend Oakland schools and libraries
--Against an economic system built on inequality and corporate power that
perpetuates racism, sexism and the destruction of the environment

For a united front of labor, youth, and all victims of the capitalist system
Union power fused with the strength of Oakland's working class and the vibrant Occupy movement is a fighting formation that can win. Such a united front has the ability to mobilize masses in disciplined, militant actions. It can help defend the movement from police assaults while discouraging adventurist violence for violence's sake. With labor taking the lead, this united front could call for a US-wide general strike, scheduled with time for unions across the land to endorse and mobilize their members, and Occupy groups to organize communities. Championing the needs of those on the bottom in this society, such as women of color, with demands like "Tax the Rich" and "Stop the Cuts", the united front could unite the movements and build future actions in defense of the beleaguered U.S. working class.

Support the ILWU solidarity action with Longview, WA Longshore workers
As part of the Oakland General Strike, we will march to the Port of Oakland and blockade it via picket line on Wednesday evening. This action is in support of the International Longshore & Warehouse Union Local 21 in Longview, Washington whose members have been attacked by police and arrested in their fight to stop a union-busting international conglomerate, EGT Development. Longshore workers are also backing the demands of Occupy Oakland. Northwest chapters of FSP and Radical Women have participated in solidarity actions in Longview and we urge Bay Area protesters to participate here.
