Black History Month Celebration
The radical legacy of Pat Parker:
Black lesbian-feminist poet and warrior
Pat Parker (1944-1989) was a community organizer, writer, mother, and fierce opponent of all forms of bigotry. Born in Texas, she moved to California in the '60s. She was involved in the Black Women's Revolutionary Council, Oakland Feminist Women's Health Center, Black Panther Party, and Women's Press Collective.
Her five volumes of poetry are known for gritty honesty in addressing the issues she tackled in her life. "If I could take all my parts with me when I go somewhere, and not have to say to one of them, "No, you stay home tonight, you won't be welcome," because I'm going to an all-white party where I can be gay, but not Black. Or I'm going to a Black poetry reading, and half the poets are antihomosexual, or thousands of situations where something of what I am cannot come with me. The day all the different parts of me can come along, we would have what I would call a revolution." -- Movement in Black
Hear Parker's words, learn about her contributions to the movements for social and economic justice, and join in the discussion.
A Southern-style meal, with vegan option, will be served at 6:30pm for a $6-8 donation. Door donation $1-5; no one turned away for lack of funds.

Reading Circle on "Lyndon LaRouche:
Fascism Restyled for the New Millennium"
Lyndon LaRouche has acquired a national and international following, and his organization frequently recruits on college campuses. This study group will explore LaRouche's contradictions, his dangerous connections to fascism, and how to organize community resistance to the upsurge in rightwing activity.
This weekly study circle meets through the month of October at Portland State University in the Smith Memorial Union cafeteria. The document will be available for $4.50. Snacks available for a donation. Feel free to jump in at any time.
